How to Have a Custom Wine Cellar at Home
While most wine is consumed within the first 24 hours of purchase some wine lovers want to hold on to their prized wine possessions longer than a day or even a year. Whether you are a wine collector looking for a place to show off your star-studded wine collection or you simply want to make sure your wine is stored at the proper temperature, finding the right custom wine cellar can be simple and add to the value of your home. The secret to building a stellar wine cellar starts with asking the experts.
Reporting for her award-winning channel Wine Oh TV, Monique Soltani heads to a wine enthusiast’s recently remodeled San Francisco home and shows us when it comes to building a custom wine cellar the size of your home doesn’t have to matter.
Wine Cellar Renovation Challenges
1900 square foot condominium in San Francisco
No basement location available
The wine cabinet could only be placed in an exposed kitchen area so it needed to be beautiful and fit in with the architecture of the home
The wine cabinet was a second tier request to a newly remodeled space and was not part of the original plan
No ready made cabinets would fit the space
Wine Cellar Features
500 bottle 8’ x 4’ cabinet
Walnut exterior cabinetry
Intricate cherry wood racks on the interior – unfinished so fumes from stain would not penetrate the corks
Multiple custom designed racks to accommodate specific wine varietals
A bar service center
Double pane glass for climate control
Thermal pane doors with tinting to protect from light exposure
A forced air system
Multiple storage sections for storing wines at different temperatures
